Futuristic Fashion

Instantly, walking into L’Espace Griffintown felt like walking into a huge industrial studio turned into a lounge for the night. It is to the great mixes of DJ Jan Pienkowski that we were greeted and asked to grab a drink, indulge in some Bad Monkey pop-corn and take a sneak peek at some of the gifts for the raffle prizes. After doing all of that, and mingling with the crowed for a while, the show finally started.

I must say that this event was a particular one. Not only were we here to see some incredible pieces of fashion art (and what an abundance of talent our very own city has), we were all present to serve common purpose: support the Leukemia and LymphomaSociety of Canada – Fighting for Blood Cancer. Presented by Heels and HeART, we all assisted to the 5th (and last) Annual Wearable Art Charity Fashion Show.

Once Stuntman Sam (the emcee) was done with a quick intro of the event, the Kameez Karim DanceMovement took the floor. Dressed in black and blue it is to the beat of what I would call a ‘thecno’ remix of Indian music that they made us all want to shake our booties.

Given that the models did not came out in the order that was indicated in the evening programming pamphlet, I found that it was hard to figure out which of the designers’ clothes were being stroked on the catwalk. Yes their names were ‘yelled’ but  it was still confusing with all of the cheering coming from the crowed.  But never mind that little detail since we were all in aahs once we saw what was presented to us. With pieces made out or recycled plastic, garbage bags and more, the designers did bring us to a futuristic world.

Right before the second intermission the host advised us that our opinion would matter tonight. Not only will the judges get to decide the winners of this 5th edition, the general public will as well. How would one be able to remember all that he/she saw? The designers with their models were asked on the catwalk for a Bain De Foule. Yep, I got up close and personal with their designs!
Once the votes were all compiled and the raffle prizes given away, it is a chaotic moment that the winner of the of the night was announced. Lucas Stowe came out on top for his collections of ‘What Lies Ahead’ and ‘Absolute Magnitude’.

Yummy cocktails, great encounters and fabulous fashion made the night an amazing one. But it is the 20k raised that made it a great success!
